All about vitamins, minerals and supplements.

Vitamins are nutrients in the human body that act to keep the body healthy. Vitamins and minerals are present in the food that we eat everyday in varying degrees depending on the type of food. Different type of foods give different types of vitamins. Apart from vitamins being present in food, we can also take vitamin supplements to augment the ones we get in our food.
Examples of vitamins are vitamin A, B, C, D, E etc. some of the vitamins are called fat soluble vitamins while others are called water soluble vitamins.
The fat soluble vitamins are so called because they are stored in the fat in our body while water soluble vitamins are those found in food we eat or supplements we take.

Minerals are also necessary for important body functions. Some minerals are needed by the body in small amounts while others are needed in large amounts. Examples of minerals that the body needs are iron, zinc, copper, calcium, magnesium etc.

Vitamins and minerals are taken to supplement for any deficiency. Eating a balanced diet may be sufficient to obtain all the important vitamins and minerals you need. However, whenever a deficiency is noticed by way of malfunction of any bodily function, vitamin supplements can be taken to stop this malfunction.
Vitamins and mineral supplements are regulated by the U.S Food and Drug Administration as a food product.

Vitamins and minerals may be taken for solving so many problems. Some of these problems are shown below;

Hair problems. There are various hair problems affecting both men and women. Examples of hair problems are;

I. Shedding,
II. Thinning,
III. Dandruff,
IV. Baldness,
V. Premature graying,
VI. Splitting, and so on.

These can be solved using hair vitamins.

There are both solid and liquid vitamins. Some nutritional specialists see liquid vitamins to be an extraordinary breakthrough. This maybe responsible for the recent quick rise to the liquid supplement advertising we are seeing today.
Natural vitamins are substances we find in the food we eat. These substances are nutrients that are essential and required by the body. They are needed because all metabolic reactions in the body take place due to their presence.
When taking liquid vitamins, the important overall issue is getting good nutrition through food supplements. It is good advice to balance these supplements by including minerals and other resources.

vitamin d comprises of vitamin D2 (ergocalaferol) and vitamin D3 on the other hand occurs naturally or is formed by the human body in the skin particularly when there is a reaction of 7-dehydro dolesterol with the UVB ultraviolet rays or high with wavelengths of 290 to 315 mm. the sunlight is an essential source of vitamin D3 specifically when the sun is on the high side enough above the horizon. This will enable the UVB ultraviolet rays to pass through the atmosphere which lead to the formation of cholecalciferol. This reaction can produce as much as 20,000 I U in the skin if the skin is exposed to the UB rays long enough.

It won't come as a surprise if after all the frequent talk about vitamin supplements, especially on health programmes in the media, you actually stop short and ponder over the issue. Are vitamin supplement really of any benefit? Do you really need them? After all, an individual gets all the required vitamins and minerals form the daily diet. Taking daily vitamin supplement has been and still is a controversial issue. Is it really safe to take a daily multivitamin? Is it really necessary, after all they should be present in our daily diet.
